You are absolutely amazing. Just by virtue of being a single parent, you have proven that you can do hard things.

Now, you might be muttering under your breath, “I don’t have a choice.” But you do. You could just walk away. People do it.

But not you. You choose to do the hard things.

With that said, I also know you probably aren’t living to your full potential.
Most people aren’t.

Why? Because living out our full potential means doing the hard things we see as optional.

• I’d like to go back to school but after a full day of work, I don’t think I’ll have the energy.
• I’d like to attend that 3-day conference in another city but that would mean finding someone to look after my kids for several days and I don’t want to ask my friends for that kind of help.
• I’d like to leave my dead-end job and start a business, but I don’t know where to start. I think it would be too hard.

So today ask yourself what life-changing things are you opting out of because they seem too hard?

When I decided to start my first business as a side hustle while I was still working full time and parenting a 1-year-old largely alone, it was daunting.
I could see myself becoming more exhausted than I already was.

Where would I find the energy to resume working after my son went to bed? It seemed a lot easier to just budget very carefully and keep on going until my son got older.

But there was a part of me that was ready to crawl out of my own skin at the thought of staying in a job I was tired of and that was keeping me financially stagnant. My soul was calling for more. I knew I was meant for more.

And so I chose to do what seemed hard at the time. I found a couple of clients through friends and committed to doing what needed to be done to take myself to another level.

I didn’t push myself to burnout. I practiced self-care. But when the whiny “I don’t want to do it” voice kicked in, I reminded her that the future would be so much better if I did the hard things now. I told her that choosing to do what was easy at the time would just prolong the pain of a dissatisfying life.
If you’re feeling the call for more in your life, start the same journey I did 8 years ago. Decide what you really want and start challenging yourself to do the hard things that will take you closer to the life you desire.

You don’t have to do all the hard things all at once. Just do one at a time. Start small. But choose to do them.

Because you can my beautiful single parent. You are amazing and you can do hard things.
